Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan has officially left the club to join Barcelona on a free transfer. The German departs City after seven years at the Etihad having captained the side to the Treble this season.
Barca have announced the 32-year-old has joined on a two-year deal including the option of another year, with a buyout clause of €400m (£342m).
Barcelona released an official statement on their website to confirm the signing of Gundogan on a free transfer.
“FC Barcelona and Ilkay Gündoğan have reached an agreement for the German international to sign for the Catalans now that his contract with Manchester City has ended. He will join for two seasons, through to 30 June 2025, with the option to stay for one more year. His buyout clause has been set at 400 million euros,” the club confirmed.
“The club shall shortly be announcing the details of his official presentation. Gündoğan turns 33 next October 24 and has a long and distinguished football career behind him. It all began in his native Gelsenkirchen, at Schalke 04.”
