Former Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley has retired from football with immediate effect. The 33-year-old has been plagued by injuries and has called time on his playing career at Watford. But Cleverley looks set to remain at the club in a coaching capacity.
Watford released an official statement on their website to confirm the retirement of Tom Cleverley from football.
“Watford FC confirms that club captain Tom Cleverley is retiring from football as a result of injury. However, some exciting news will soon be announced jointly by the club and Tom,” the club confirmed.
“The former England international first played for Watford on loan from Manchester United during season 2009/10, picking up the club’s Player of the Season award.
“Tom then made nearly 150 more appearances in six-and-a-half years after signing from Everton – initially on loan before converting the move into a permanent deal. Thank you TC, and good luck!”
