Relegation-threatened Leeds United have appointed ex-England boss Sam Allardyce as head coach for their final four games of the season after sacking Javi Gracia.
Leeds lost 4-1 at Bournemouth on Sunday and are now only outside the relegation places on goal difference after Monday night’s 2-2 draw between fellow relegation strugglers Leicester and Everton.
Gracia leaves the club after just 12 games in charge, alongside coaches Zigor Aranalde, Mikel Antia and Juan Solla.
Allardyce, who previously rescued Sunderland and Crystal Palace from potential relegation, becomes the club’s fourth head coach of the season.
A Leeds statement read: “We thank Javi and his team for their efforts under difficult circumstances.
“The remaining four games of the season will be overseen by experienced head coach Sam Allardyce.
“Allardyce has managed over 500 Premier League games in a managerial career stretching 29 years and he brings a wealth of knowledge in fighting for survival, having guided a number of his previous clubs to safety.
“Over the past decade he has successfully helped Sunderland, Crystal Palace and Everton avoid relegation from the Premier League during short-term stints.”
