Jorge Sampaoli has left Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain out of the Argentina squad for decisive fixtures against Peru and Ecuador.
The coach has instead opted for Messi, Icardi, Aguero and Dybala up-front as he continues to ignore Higuain out of the picture, despite him having made a bright start to the season with two goals.
Argentina find themselves in a fragile position in fifth place in their World Cup qualifying group. That could see them face a potential play-off against New Zealand in order to qualify for the World Cup in Russia.
To avoid that, they will need to take maximum points from their last two qualifying games, starting with a game against Peru at La Bombonera on October 5.
Another surprise in the selection is a call-up for 'Papu' Gomez. The Atlanta winger's early season form has done enough to earn him a recall, having previously been called up to feature in a friendly. Now, he will have his first shot for the national team in competitive games.
Real Sociedad goalkeeper Rulli has also been left out alongside Higuain, allowing Marchesin to return to the squad as third choice goalkeeper. Within the next few days, the full squad will be confirmed including players from the Argentine league.
