Kepa joins Chelsea
With Courtois joining Real Madrid after refusing to train or return back to England if he’s not being sold, Chelsea have found a perfect replacement, and the Blues have officially announced the signing of Kepa Arrizabalaga on a seven-year contract.The Spain International thus becomes the most expensive goalkeeper in the history after the London club cough up a whooping sum of 71.6 million pounds, breaking the record set in July by Liverpool's purchase of Alisson Becker from AS Roma.
After depositing the money, the former Athletic Club stopper headed for London where he completed the formalities of the deal and posed with the club's shirt.
"It's a very important decision for me, for my career and for my personal life," he explained to Chelsea's club website.
"Many things attracted me to this club, all the titles the club has won, the other players, the city and the Premier League. "I'm very glad Chelsea has decided to trust me and to take me in as well."
Chelsea Sporting Director Marina Granovskaia has got a lot of work to do this summer regarding recruitments, she was able to avoid losing Eden Hazard to Real Madrid but she was unable to change Thibaut Courtois decision to leave the club as the Belgian joins Real Madrid with Mateo Kovacic joining Chelsea on a season long loan from the same Madrid.
"Kepa is a talent we have admired for a long time and we're extremely excited about his arrival," she intimated to Chelsea's official website.
"He has already demonstrated fantastic quality and consistency and will be a big part of any success Chelsea have in the coming years. "His long-term contract reflects the belief we have in him."
