The UEFA player of the year awards have been won by Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi for the past four years which strikes another dominance from the pair.
The dominance of both spectacular players has been broken by Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric, the Croatian takes the award beating Salah and Cristiano Ronaldo thanks to his Champions League title and his great World Cup.
The Croatian has also been chosen as the UEFA's Best Midfielder, ahead of Kevin De Bruyne (City) and teammate Toni Kroos. The former Tottenham player was spectacular for his club in last season’s champions league campaign as they won the UCL the third time in a row.
He was also instrumental for his country at the FIFA World cup in Russia as he only misses out on the ultimate title in the finals as his teams lost to France 4-2 though he was compensated for his stellar performance as he took home the golden ball as the best player of the tournament.
Real Madrid will be happy to keep him as he was strongly linked with a move to Italian Serie A side Inter Milan this summer. As Luka Modric did in the UEFA Players of the year award football fans are hopeful he can do so in FIFA “The Best” awards and also clinch the famous European award Balon D’or.
